Welcome to the Ohio Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) website. This site is intended to offer current Information about the ESGR programs and activities in the Great State of Ohio.

The first page is a general ESGR information site, while our ESGR Volunteer Page speaks specifically to those Ohio ESGR volunteers that are working across the state to promote the important work of the organization.

Our Military Page will feature information on the Ohio National Guard and Reserve Component (RC) units in Ohio, and the final page, the Support Page, of the site will endeavor to lead our users to other advocacy and assistance sites for the Ohio military and employer community users.

What is ESGR?

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve ...or "ESGR", is a volunteer advocacy branch of the Office of the United States Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) that was established in 1972 to assist returning veterans in reentering the civilian workforce after serving in the Armed Forces. This role has taken on new significance of late, with the extraordinary mobilizations of the nation's National Guard and Reserve forces to fully integrate into the standing Active Duty forces. The ESGR is charged by the SECDEF to educate military members, their families, and their employers on the importance of managing the fragile relationship between military reservists and National Guard members and their day-to-day employers that share them with the Department of Defense (DoD). The ESGR also seeks to recognize those employers and military members that contribute to the support of this relationship, and finally to provide skilled non-partisan, non-binding Ombudsmen Services to employers, or uniformed members when there is a potential for imbalance or violation of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
